Camp- Arrabri Lodge
On the 18th-20th of October level 3 had camp at Arrabri Lodge. It was a hour and a half drive to get there. The grade threes were in one bus and the grade fours in the other one. Once we got there we settled into to our cabins. I was with Lucy, Nana
Alyssa, Holly and I. We unpacked. The activities were archery, ropes, orienteering, flying fox and the giant swing. The giant swing was AWESOME! We would get harnessed up, go meters in the air, say stop, then were told to pull the red rope and you would DROP. You would drop BACKWARDS down and then swing until we stoped. But the good thing was that everybody did something. If it wasn't your turn you had to pull this white rope that would pull the person on it up and up. Then we would be told to braise. We would have to hold on to the rope very tight and you would get a fling forwards. IT WAS SO FUN! The camp fie was on Tuesday night. Mr.Kelly was singing song we were roasting marshmallows. They were great. Then on Wednesday we went home. I had so much fun. I wish I could go there again.
Puppet Incursion
On Friday 5th of November level 3 watched a puppet show called Punch and Judy.Punch is a naughty man who always says "THAT IS THE WAY TO DO IT" which wasn't.
The story was about Punch hungry all the time and wanting to get his lunch so he went around town just to get his lunch. A lot of thing happened in the story which were funny and silly. At the end of the story he didn't get his lunch after all. When the show finished the owner of the show, showed us all the secrets behind the scene.

Science Rotations: Oobleck
4J did oobleck on thursday afternoon at about 2:30. We go to to different classes to do sience things like ooblek (what I'm going to talking in just er 1 sentence later), ice melting race, shaking the vanilla, sorting out which is liquid or solid. So ooblek is made of flour, water, die and that is it. If you role it for a while it goses solidy and if you stop roling it goes liquidy. So yeah we did the ooblek at 3V or Mrs Vitorio and then the next week we go to 3/4C or Mr Chaffers room. So after that we go to our classroom.

We Should Do More to Save Water
Australia is running low on water so everyone should help save ater. The following ideas will help you so use them.
If we waste water how does it affect animals? If we take to much water from dams and rivers animals won't have water and they'll die from dehydration. It will also kill plants that aren't in gardens. So that will kill bugs and the birds and when we run out of water people will die too. We have to save water.
If we have long showers every the hot water will run out. When you have showers you'll have cold showers and cold baths.
We can save the planet but if we don't care, things can happen. So get a water tank because when it rains the water tank will catch the water. Then you will be able to use your own hose without wasting water. When it rains all the water floods the gutters, so get a bucket and get all the water and pour it on your plants.
Some people think we don't need to do more to save water because Victoria is getting a desalination plant that cleans the salt water from the sea and puts the salt back into the ocean. That would give Victoria enough water to survive on. We should still try to use less water though because the extra salt going back into the ocean will be harmful to sea creatures.
People in Australia know that they need to start saving water. It's time to start and help the people of Australia.

Kids Shouldn't Do Chores
Some people think that kids should do chores at home and some people think kids should not be given chores at home.
Children should not do chores because if they are washing the dishes they might not wash them properly. Also if the kids wash knives they could accidentally cut themselves. If kids sweep the floor all the dust could go in their face, which isn't good. That is why kids shouldn't do chores.
Children should not do chores at home because they might get tired for school and they are not going to get time for homework or study at home. Children have to study first because education is very important. This is their time to study and learn things that might be good for when they are big.
If children have to do chores they might not be able to go out and meet their friends or talk with their friends. This could get tiring and can also be boring. Kids should be able to go outside and play. If kids do too much of helping they can get stressed and sick.
Some people think kids should do chores at home because they can learn how to do things responsibly but that is not true. Being responsible is good but that would be expecting too much from kids. They should get time to talk and play. Besides, they are just kids!
Finally, children should not do chores because they need a break from school. It is also their only time to study. No chores for kids!

Canteens Should Only Sell Healthy Food
Canteens should sell healthy foods to children so they are healthy. Lollies give you bad health and lollies are unhealthy. It also will develop into.... CANCER! Lots of poeple are dying because of cancer.
Canteens should have healthy food because if kids eat unhealthy food they are not healthy and if they eat healthy food they are healthy.
Canteens should only sell healthy food because if children eat healthy food they can concentrate during class and can get healthier, taller and stronger.
Some people say that children should be able to make their own choice. If canteens sell junk, people might keep eating junk food and waste their money and become fat. Let me ask you, do you care about your health? If you keep eating junk you might have a weight problem.

It is Better to Live Now Than in the Past
In the past we didn't have the internet and we didn't have escalators. We didn't have lifts but now we have mobile phones and we also use the internet on mobile phones. We can also watch cricket matches. We can communicate with people even overseas. We can go in planes to other places instead of taking two years to go in a ship.
It's better to live now than in the past because in the past teachers whack children a lot when they talk to the person next to them when they're supposed to be doing their work.
It's better to live now than in the past because when it was a long time ago there were lost of diseases and now the medical knowledge has improved a lot so many things will be treatable.
Some people may think that it is better to live in the past because children have more discipline and people will learn survival skills. This is true but you can still learn survival skills by camping. Also children still have discipline. It's not like children can do whatever they want.

Cats Should be Locked up at Night
There have been rumours about cats screaming in the middle of the night and cats going into other houses. What do you think?
Cats should not be let out at night because they make noises and they wake people up. They fight with other cats and kill birds. Dogs also fight them and cats might die.
Secondly, if the owners don't put colars on their cats they can lose the cats. When the cats come back they could be severely injured. In the middle of the night people (especially teens) could steal them.
Cats have to be locked up at night because they hurt other pets.
It is cruel to lock up cats at night but if we don't lock up cats at night they might wander off at night and owners will lose them and they might get hit by a car at night.
Cats should be locked up at night because it causes less drama and other things.

Exposition Writing
This term we have been focussing on exposition writing. Today 4J split into writing teams. The teams had to pick a statement card from a mystery box and then roll a die to see if they were going to agree or disagree with the statement. They worked together to write persuasively about their topic, following the structure of exposition writing with paragraph topics and a rebuttals. Here is what they came up with....

Exposition Writing
In Term 3 we will be learning about exposition writing. This type of writing involves presenting an opinion about a topic and using persuasive arguments to try to convince readers to agree. This activity may help although you may need to zoom in quite a lot to be able to see it!

Tree Habitats
the other day 4J measured trees with miss jolly and miss jeffery. we measured the crown, the circumference,we also measured, width and the height. We used a meter ruler to measure how big the tree was. We used a one and a half metre string to measure the width of the tree and a click wheel to measure the crown. we had about 5 groups. we used string, chalk, scissors and click wheels. We also measured the height of the tree. we did that by getting thr ratio of the shadow at that time it was double the height so, we measured the shadow it was 17m. and divided that by two and the height of the tree was 8.5m. i think measuring trees is fun!

On Wednesday I showed my dog to our class. My dog is called Tilly and she's a girl. My Dad came with our dog and all of the class went outside. Then my dad and I brought Tilly around for everyone to pat. Nikita kept on asking, "Can I hold Tilly? Can I hold Tilly?" Nikita finally held her.
Then we went around again for every one to hold or pat after my Dad left all of the class went to the taps to washed their hands and tipped the water from the buckets on to the plants.

Cane Toad Information Report
In Australia there are millions of cane toads! That may sound like a lot and it is! Each female cane toad can lay 30 000 eggs at a time. This is a big problem in Australia. These pesky toads are causing problems for native animals and pets.
Cane toads can be found in warm, northern parts of Australia such as Queensland, Northern Territory and the top of Western Austrlia. They live for five to ten years in the wild and eat anything from mice or insects to dog food! They are nocturnal and usually can only be seen at night. Their eyelids are transparent so when they blink you can still see their eyes.
Cane toads came to Australia more than 70 years ago. At that time there was a problem with beetles eating sugar cane crops. The toads were introduced from South America to eat the beetles which they did successfully. Although one problem was fixed, another one was created.
Native Australian animals and pets often eat cane toads. Cane toads have small glands of poison in sides of their necks which kills the animals. Cane toads are breeding a lot and there are so many around that native animals are becoming vulnerable and some are even in danger of extinction.
Some Australian scientists are trying to stop cane toads from causing harm to native quolls. They have come up with an idea to make sausages out of cane toads but not the poisonous bit. They also add a chemical that causes vomiting. The scientists put the sausages out where a lot of quolls live. Then they leave the scene adn the quolls come out and eat the sausages. The quolls vomit and they they don't like the taste of cane toad. LAter when they find real cane toads they won't eat them.
Cane toads have become a real problem in the northing parts of Australia. They were introduced to eat beetles that were destroying cane crops. The toads are poisonous to native animals. Scientists are coming up with ideas to stop cane toads. We hope the native animals will learn not to eat toads!

Scary Poems
On the 22nd of February Holly and I were doing literacy rotations. We were doing English in a box. We chose one about poems that include scary monsters. So we made a poster with two poems and a lot of pictures of monsters and weird creatures. I did the poems in my literacy book first to think of the two poem's and Holly did the pictures we also both coloured in. It was fun and quite easy.
Goblins and Gules scare you at night
But during the day they don't give you a fright
They're weird monsters just in a way
Vampires drop blood from the past to today
So stay alert and be afraid!

First Week 2010
On the first week of school 4J were thinking about what makes a good student. In our literacy book we wrote down what makes a good student like be polite, keep going and try your best. We also talked about Persistence, Confidence, Getting Along, Resilience and Organisation. We wrote those words on paper keys and thought up words like never give up, try your best and be brave to show what each one meant.
Creating a Learning Community
We started school for 2010 with C.A.L.C.(Creating a Learning Communnity. We did a Y chart of a sucessful classroom, 'You Can Do It!' posters, a great student alphabet chart, 'Who Am I' activites and class and CARE values. 4J is really having fun with C.A.L.C.
